Edward W. Kale was a student at Yale Divinity School when he was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi for his participation in a Freedom Ride. As part of the Freedom Ride Kale and five others took a Trailways bus from Nashville, Tennessee, via Memphis, Tennessee to Jackson, Mississippi where they were arrested on 7 June 1961.
